Dating vs. relationship?

How long do you generally date before you make it a relationship? How do you make it a relationship? What do you do different when you are dating someone, but not in a relationship? Feel free to state any thoughts about both dating and relationships.

  1. Dating becomes a relationship as the intimacy levels increase and you become much more comfortable around the significant other. There will be cuddling kissing and sometimes sex if it gets to that.. But my advice here is to take it slow and you will know and feel when it time to take it to the next level. Remember the journey of a thousand miles begin with only a step
  2. What I consider different in a relationship from just dating is that you're "exclusive" with eachother and don't see other people. In my experience the timing varies from relationship to relationship. I've had relationships where it's been months before we've become "exclusive" and I've had relationships where we were exclusive right away. I'd say it just depends on how deeply you feel for the other person - if it's just a casual thing with few feelings involved, you can just date, but if it's a significant other who the thought of them seeing anyone else fills you with dread/tears/etc. then you'd be more inclined to turn it into an exclusive relationship. Also to me, for it to be a relationship there has to be a higher level of trust between the two people.
